Masonry saw

Step 1: Preparation

Professionals should always install the swimming pool because it acts as your guide before you can pave around the area around the pool. Once this has been done, you can then begin to smooth the soil using a rake, ensuring that it is flat and level. Further excavation may be needed to ensure that the depth of the area is at least 4 to 6 inches deep.

Step 2: Compaction

You may also need to hire a compactor from your nearest hardware store. Compaction should take place after excavation. This will make suret that the soil is prepared. A compactor brings all the soil together making it very smooth and compact and ready for the paver base. A fabric sheet known as a separation fabric may be used for the base and should be applied on top of the soil.

Step 3: Preparing the Paver Base

The type of suitable base material will depend on which type of pavers you have chosen to use as your pool pavers. Some of the common types of paver base used are:

Crushed stone
Crushed pavers
Rubber Hammer head
Start mixing the base. After the base is mixed it then needs to be applied onto the leveled ground starting in small sections. A base of approximately 2 inches should be laid.

Step 4: Laying the Pavers

Once you’ve selected a creative pattern, seek your manufacturer’s advice on purchasing a pattern grid. A pattern grid will help and guide you in installing the pavers in the right pattern.

It is always recommended to start laying pavers in a left to right order and starting in a far corner so you work your way backwards. Lay the pavers one by one in a continuous line. String may be set before you start to lay the pavers to guide you to paving in a straight line. Pave the area and use your pool as your guide. As you install a paver, use a soft hammer head to ensure it is compacting and level onto the base.

Step 5: Cutting the Pavers

Use a marker to mark out the shape and size that you need to cut your paver.. Use a masonry to saw cut the pavers into shape. It may be recommended that the cutting blade is wet when cutting the pavers into size.

Step 6: Filling in the Joints

Sand is the best material to fill in the gaps. Start by using a broom and sweep the sand over your paved pool area several times making sure the sand is completely in place.
